Getting Started
Registration with Edmonton Suzuki Piano School involves conducting observations with ESPS teachers, engaging a teacher for your child and then completing your registration package. Please review the process below, or contact us to discuss the process.
Choosing a Teacher
Our community of ESPS teachers typically welcome students into their home studios for lessons. Interested families may contact any of our teachers directly to inquire about availability or contact our office to discuss options. If accepting new students, the teacher will arrange a time for you and your child to meet in person or virtually, as appropriate, to get to know one another. When possible, we encourage families to observe several other student's lesson to learn more about the ESPS program and the Suzuki approach. Observations provide families with an excellent opportunity to experience teaching style and learn more about the teacher, parent, and student expectations.
Registration
After choosing a teacher and completing observations, families return the completed registration package and begin lessons. There are two fees associated with registration: ESPS membership fees for a beginner student and an annual tuition fee. There are several payment options for this fee, including monthly payments. Families are also asked to provide a volunteer commitment cheque held in trust and returned after families complete their volunteer commitments for the year. For families that are too busy to volunteer, they may choose to make a tax-deductible donation instead.
Year-Round Registration
Edmonton Suzuki Piano School operates on a 10-month calendar, with programming from September through June. Families can begin classes at any point in the term based on availability. The tuition rates will be adjusted to reflect a reduced lesson schedule.
What is Included?
The tuition and membership fees cover 37 weeks of programming from September to June each year. As registered members of ESPS, students learn through both individual and group lessons. They also enjoy performance opportunities through regular recitals, graduation concerts for students completing each volume of repertoire and community outreach concerts. Member families also receive one copy of the Suzuki book and CD.
Parent Workshop
Parents are also required to attend a parent orientation workshop. The workshop welcomes parents into the ESPS program, provides an introduction to the Suzuki philosophy, and looks at the first book of repertoire that you and your child will be learning. Finally, the workshop offers invaluable tips on developing practice skills and learning strategies for motivating students at home.
