Musically Bonded: Creating a Family-Friendly Music Community.
As parents, we all want our children to be involved in activities that enrich their lives and provide them with a sense of community and belonging. Different lessons and activities can provide opportunities for children to thrive but often have a clear divide between participant and spectator. Having this independence for your children can help them develop certain skills, but having activities that involve the family can have numerous benefits for both parents and children.
Music is a universal language that brings people of all ages and backgrounds together. It can connect people, create a sense of community, and promote socialization through collaboration. If you're looking for a music studio for your family, make it a priority to find one that values community-building and inclusivity because this can have lasting benefits.
Bonded Through Music
When parents and children are involved in music lessons, it provides a unique opportunity for bonding and quality time. It allows families to share in the joy of music-making and to support each other's musical growth. With their parents involved, it can increase the child’s motivation to practice and improve. Children are likelier to take their lessons seriously when they know their parents are invested in their progress. Additionally, parents can model a positive attitude towards learning and perseverance by participating in music lessons alongside their children. This can impact children's attitudes toward learning and encourage them to take on new challenges confidently.
Creating a Community
Music is one such activity that can bring families together and create lasting memories. When families feel supported and included, it creates a positive and motivating environment that can help children thrive. Welcoming the whole family creates a sense of community, providing numerous benefits and advantages for parents and children. Inclusive music studios often provide a sense of accountability that can help children stay on track with their practice and learning goals. When children feel part of a community, they are more likely to be motivated to practice and learn. Music studios that prioritize community-building often provide opportunities for children to connect with other students and families. It can be a place where families can connect with other like-minded individuals and form lasting friendships.
Creative Collaboration
When the whole family is welcomed into the music studio community, it creates opportunities for collaboration. Parents can work with their children on practicing and homework, strengthening the bond between parent and child. Additionally, families may be able to collaborate on recitals, performances, and other musical events, which can be a fun and rewarding experience for everyone involved. This can create a sense of camaraderie and teamwork, which can benefit students' musical development and overall social and emotional growth. Children learning in an inclusive and welcoming environment are more likely to develop social skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.
The Edmonton Suzuki Piano School Community
Our mandate at Edmonton Suzuki Piano is to support our students, parents and teachers. Our Suzuki “triangle” — the teacher, parent, and student — works together to create a nurturing and effective learning environment. Parents are essential to the process and receive coaching to support their children at practice. The parent's involvement creates a support structure for the learner at home. In turn, the parent enjoys a front-row seat to their child’s progression at the piano. ESPS also organizes special events, offering parent education opportunities and coordinating the details for performances like recitals, outreach concerts, and graduations.
