Lauren’s Bio:
My name is Lauren and I am a grade 12 student. As I have been playing piano for 10 years, it has always been a part of my life, it has always been a constant and was a way for me to relax after studying. My first memory of music was going to my friend's house and seeing her piano. I was amazed, I ran my hands through the piano keys and played random notes. The sounds that it was able to produce were mesmerizing. I started piano lessons shortly after, at first it was just a pretty instrument I could play, but quickly evolved into a passion for music.
Later I started playing the flute in my school band and played in the junior city and provincial band for a year and a lot of the music theory I learned in piano was transferrable to school and vice versa. I also participated in my school’s jazz band, of course playing the piano, and I even had the chance to play the national anthem on the piano at my school’s end of the year award ceremony. Although I am not pursuing piano or music as a course in university I hope to continue playing and practicing my favourite pieces. When I get the chance, I would also like to take up the violin!
Being part of the Suzuki piano program has taught me a lot, patience, time management, and commitment. It will be weird not having a scheduled piano lesson in the next school year, but I will continue to play on my own. I would like to thank Alla Rekhson for supporting me throughout my piano career, being patient while I become more comfortable with the piano, aiding with refining my piano technique, and helping me reach my full potential in music.
