Interview with Alla

What is your musical background?

I have received a Master of Music degree in piano from Belarusian State Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music from the Music College in Gomel, Belarus.

What inspired to teach you the Suzuki Method?

When I lived in Houston, Texas my colleague recommended me to attend the Suzuki teacher training course. At that course I met Dr. Harrel- a teacher trainer of Suzuki Association of America. She introduced me to the world of Suzuki method and inspired me to become a Suzuki teacher.

What is a common challenge that students face when learning to play the piano?

Having a lot of activities besides the piano, kids have difficulty finding time for practice.

What do you expect from your students?

Daily practice and listening to the Suzuki recordings.

Who was your most significant teacher?

I was very fortunate to have a wonderful piano teacher in college. She encouraged me but also showed some tough love when necessary. Thanks to her, I was able to improve my piano skills and tone while developing a deeper appreciation and love of music. Everything that she taught me I still use in my teaching.

Describe the school culture at Edmonton Suzuki Piano School.

I think we have a positive school culture that provides a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment for everyone.

What is your favourite piece of music played on the piano?

I have many piano pieces that I like. My preferences changes over the time. For now I like Prokofiev’s piano concerto #3.

What is your favourite Suzuki repertoire piece?

Nocturne in C#minor by Chopin.

What is the best part of the Edmonton Suzuki Piano School community?

The best part of ESPS community is to have a such supportive group of teachers and board members. This facilitates a great environment for creating an excellent program and events for our students who can develop and progress theirs skills. It motivates them to work harder and makes learning process more fun.
